The Department of Communication is most noted for our emphasis in health communication, as reflected by our recent ranking by the National Communication Association as 6th in the nation in health communication doctoral programs. We are one of the most highly funded communication departments in the nation, with extramural funding coming from sources such as the National Institute of Mental Health, the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the National Institute of Nursing Research, and the Department of Homeland Security. Our faculty also engages in significant non-funded research, ranging from a relationship development to organizational safety to cancer communication.
