Anita Silwal, MS, MA, is a third-year doctoral student in Health Communication. She is also a Policy and Communication Graduate Research Assistant for the HEALing Communities Study (HCS) Kentucky. Her research interest focuses on health communication, policy, and media. Before getting into a Ph.D. program, Anita worked as a Senior Neighborhood Outreach Planner for the City of Winter Haven. Originally from Kathmandu, Anita is a former prime-time TV anchor who worked for a national news network, News24, on a political and social news beat. She also worked with Habitat for Humanity as an Officer-in-charge of Government Relationships and worked with Asia-Pacific and Atlanta headquarters for Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Project. She is a founder of Welcome Womanhood, a nonprofit working in Africa for women's health education. She received Girls Inc. Lakeland, FL's "She Knows Where She is Going" award for her philanthropic work in 2019.
