Health as a Human Right: The Role of Health Communication
Health as a human right has been recognized for nearly a century, established in the World Health Organization’s Constitution in 1946 and the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. This right extends far beyond providing equitable access to basic healthcare to include establishing a society free from poverty and pollution, a society filled with ample opportunities for education and employment, a society that promotes the value of science in advancing prevention and treatment of disease, and a society that recognizes the dignity of all people regardless of individual and cultural differences. Health communication plays a fundamental role in advancing this cause. KCHC 2026 will offer participants a venue for sharing research and practice that broadly underwrites the fundamental principle of health as a human right. Come join us.
