Health Communication

Lisa Huddleston is currently a doctoral student and graduate teaching assistant at the University of Kentucky. She has an extensive background as a communications practitioner in the health care field -- having worked in marketing/public relations for a large Cincinnati-based hospital system; as a grant writer for a community health improvement organization; as a communications manager for a Cincinnati-based hospital trade organization; and as a communications specialist, focusing on patient experience, for a large health care system in Northern Kentucky.

Courses Taught

This writing intensive course examines basic verbal and nonverbal concepts affecting the communication process between individuals in various interpersonal contexts. Course also requires participation in written and oral activities designed to develop and improve interpersonal skills. Topics may include: perspective-taking, relationship and conversation management, effective listening, conflict management, communication climate, communication anxiety, and cultural/gender differences in interpersonal communication.
