Dr. Don Helme, Associate Professor in the Department of Communication, visited Qingdao, China, in the Shandong province in the summer of 2016. He worked with scholars at Qingdao Technological University to help refine interested scholars’ skills both in terms of writing and speaking English as well as to form connections with Qingdao Tech faculty that hopefully will provide future research and scholarship opportunities.
His trip to Qingdao was sponsored by UK’s Confucius Institute and lasted for 3 total weeks. He was accompanied by Dr. Steven Alvarez, Assistant Professor of the Writing, Rhetoric, and Digital Studies Department in the College of A&S and by James Wright of Transylvania University, who were also sponsored by the UK Confucius Institute. While on campus they taught classes in their areas of specialty (classes are taught in English) to faculty who wish to study abroad in the United States. Interested faculty are required to complete this 3 week seminar in order to obtain permission and support from their home institution to study abroad.
